Question: The GDI emphasises an action-oriented approach and people-centred development. What practical cooperation results has the Initiative delivered over the past five years, and what concrete benefits has it brought to people around the world?
Embassy Spokesperson: Over the past five years, the GDI has delivered a steady stream of practical cooperation outcomes. Supported by the China-UN Peace and Development Fund, the Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund and other funding initiatives, the GDI has mobilised more than US$23 billion for cooperation across eight priority areas—poverty reduction, food security, public health, climate change, industrialisation, the digital economy, connectivity, and development financing. Over 2,000 cooperation projects have been carried out, and over 200,000 professionals in various fields have received training.
From Juncao technology, which contributes to global poverty reduction, to the Sustainable Development Science Satellite 1 (SDGSAT-1), which enables data sharing, and to the MAZU platform, which helps Global South countries strengthen their capacity for meteorological early warning and disaster prevention and mitigation, the GDI has delivered tangible benefits to people in more than 120 countries. Specifically, practical cooperation under the Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund has yielded results in more than 70 countries, benefiting over 40 million people and providing strong support for economic development and the improvement of local livelihoods.
China has always maintained that international development cooperation should go beyond slogans and commitments. What matters most is translating these into concrete actions and tangible results. China stands ready to work more closely with all parties to ensure that more practical projects under the GDI are implemented effectively and deliver real benefits to people around the world.
