Question: Recent UK media reports say that “Tibetan independence” elements based in the UK have spread false allegations that security personnel of the Chinese Embassy used prohibited devices while responding to an anti-China demonstration in early July. What is your comment?

Embassy Spokesperson: The above allegations made by those “Tibetan independence” elements against the Embassy are nothing but fabrication and defamation. This is a typical case of the perpetrator playing the victim. We strongly condemn such acts. 

On 3 July, a group of so-called “protesters” harassed the Embassy at close range. They blocked and obstructed the front main entrance of the Embassy and attempted to force their way into the Embassy premises. We promptly reported this serious incident to the local police and made solemn representations with the UK government.

We will continue to urge the UK government to take concrete and effective measures to stop anti-China elements from carrying out illegal harassment against Chinese diplomatic missions in the UK and to ensure the safety and security of Chinese diplomatic missions and personnel.
