Question: According to recent reports, there have been a number of organised crime cases in the UK in recent years, particularly telecom fraud, targeting Chinese nationals, including Chinese students. What is your comment?  

Embassy spokesperson: The Chinese government is firmly committed to combating organised crime in accordance with the law, including telecom fraud and other crimes targeting Chinese nationals abroad, including Chinese students, and actively engages in international law enforcement cooperation to that end.

We follow closely organised crime and telecom fraud cases targeting Chinese nationals, including Chinese students, in the UK. The law enforcement authorities of China and the UK have maintained communication and coordination on these matters, and we hope both sides will further strengthen such cooperation.

The Chinese Embassy in the UK attaches great importance to the personal safety and property of Chinese Chinese nationals, including Chinese students, in the UK. In response to the recent increase in local criminal cases, the Embassy regularly issues safety alerts and guidance, actively assists the victims in dealing with cases of theft, robbery and fraud in accordance with the law, and promptly advises the victims and their family members to report such incidents to the local police. The Embassy will continue to urge the relevant UK authorities to take effective measures to safeguard the personal safety and property of Chinese nationals, including Chinese students, in the UK.
