Consul General Wang Shuying attended Belfast Mela 2018

On August 26, Consul General Wang Shuying was invited to attend the opening ceremony of the 12th Belfast Mela. The distinguished guests also included Lord Mayor Councilor Deirdre Hargey and representatives from the Executive Office, Arts Council NI and Tourism NI, etc.

     

A Chinese culture exhibition area, the "Chinatown" was introduced for the first time, and became one of the highlights at the festival. After the opening ceremony, Consul General Wang accompanied the Lord Mayor of Belfast and other guests went into the "Chinatown" to enjoy the Chinese tea, traditional Chinese music, handicrafts, calligraphy, the Chinese dragon dance, minority costumes show and folk dances presented by the Confucius Institute of the Ulster University and local Chinese.

     

Mela Belfast is organized annually by ArtsEkta, and sponsored by Northern Ireland Executive Office, Belfast City Council,NI Arts Council and Tourism NI, attracting about tens of thousands of attendees each year. The festival aims to enhance the understanding of the multiple local minority cultures and to promote the social harmony and stability.
