Consul General Wang Shuying attended 2017 Northern Ireland Overseas Chinese Spring Festival Gala Dinner

On January 30, Consul General Wang Shuying attended and spoke at the Chinese New Year Gala Dinner hosted by the Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Chinese Welfare Association in Northern Ireland. Lord Lieutenant of Belfast Fionnuala Jay-O'Boyle attended the event. Northern Ireland Junior Minister Alastair Ross, Lord Mayor of Belfast Brian Kingston attended and made the remarks respectively. Nearly 400 guests were present including overseas Chinese, students and scholars, local friends,etc.

In her speech, Wang Shuying firstly extended Chinese New Year greetings and good wishes to the fellow Chinese and local friends, stressing that 2016 was the first year of China's 13th Five-Year Plan and of the golden era of China-UK relationship. The friendly cooperation between China and UK, China and Northern Ireland has yielded great positive results in the respects of government, economy, culture, education and so on. The year of 2017 marks the 45th anniversary of the establishment of China-UK ambassadorial-level diplomatic relations, it is believed that with the joint efforts of both sides, the friendly and mutually beneficial cooperation between China and UK as well as China and NI will usher in greater development opportunities at the new starting point.

In particular, Wang Shuying highlighted Chinese President Xi Jinping's keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2017 in Davos, briefed the sound and steady trend of China’s economic and social development, emphasized that under the leadership of Chinese Communist Party, China has embarked on a right path of development suited to its national conditions; China is not only a beneficiary of economic globalization, but also a contributor, it will unswervingly promote economic globalization, and resolutely oppose trade protectionism; China's development means more cooperation and business opportunities for the world, UK and Northern Ireland.

Wang Shuying highly appreciates the great efforts by NI Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Chinese Welfare Association in uniting and solidifying the overseas Chinese, and positive contributions to local social and economic development and bilateral friendly exchanges, and promised that Chinese Consulate General will continue its efforts to provide more and better service for overseas Chinese and friends.
