On 17th February, Consul General Wang Shuying hosted Chinese New Year Reception for overseas Chinese and academia in Northern Ireland at Chinese Consulate General in Belfast. She delivered remarks to extend greetings for the New Year of Dog. Chair of Chinese Welfare Association NI(CWA NI) Huang Weicheng and Professor Li Kang from Queen's University Belfast also made remarks respectively to celebrate New Year. Over 60 local Chinese representatives attended it.

Wang Shuying highlighted that the year of 2017 became a historic milestone of China's development with the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China being successfully held. China entered into a new era of the socialism with Chinese characteristics, committed to building the community with a shared future for mankind. The year 2018 marks the first year of China's New Era and the 40th anniversary of China's reform and opening up, China will surely open wider to and share more opportunities with the rest of the world.

Wang Shuying pointed out that last year witnessed the remarkable breakthrough of China-NI cooperation in fields of economy, trade, education, science and technology. In particular the Third China-UK Regional Leaders Summit was held successfully in NI, becoming a new milestone in the development of the friendly bilateral relations. She emphasized that following the first official visit to China by UK Prime Minister Ms May, the two countries are committed to building the China-UK "Golden Era" 2.0 this year. China and UK shared common ground of free trade and open economy. We are confident that bilateral win-win cooperation is facing huge historic opportunities particularly through the "Belt and Road" Initiative.

Citing New Year messages of "the new era is the one for strivers" and "hard-working in itself is a blessing" by President Xi Jinping, Wang Shuying hopes that in the new year, local Chinese would realize dreams and happiness through hard work and contribute more to local society as well as China-UK "Golden Era" 2.0 and China-NI friendly cooperation. The Chinese Consulate General will spare no efforts to carry on its duties and responsibilities and strive to provide better consular services to Chinese communities in NI.

Both Mr. Huang Weicheng and Professor Li Kang said in their speeches that China's development made historical achievements in 2017, maintaining the world second economy and helping more than 10 million people out of poverty. Such as "Huiyan" X-ray satellites, quantum computers and C919 large civic aircraft attracted worldwide attention, "Made in China" yielded brilliant results. Overseas Chinese feel extremely proud of motherland and will continue actively integrating into local communities and supporting China's development as well as bridging China-NI friendly exchanges and cooperation.
